1999 Giacomo Conterno Monfortino

$1,399.99

"Made from only Nebbiolo grapes, this Monfortino is perhaps the most complex and typical version from the 1990s. The grapes came from vineyards that border between Serralunga and Monforte and were as classic as you can get for a Barolo. The wine had a distinct and typical garnet color and broad, detailed aromas dominated by smoky notes and scents of tar and licorice which exalt the mineral sensations that generally develop after ten years in the bottle. In this case they were perfectly developed. The impact of the mouthfeel was pronounced and opened with an almost brackish acidity to then continue with a profile that charmingly rustic with distinct tannins. All these elements contributed to giving this wine a long and positive prospect of aging further. The finish was, obviously, very long." - 97/100Doctorwine
