Stitzel Weller Old Fitzgerald 10-Year-Old 1849 Velvet Gift Set with Glasses (1970 Vintage)

$2,799.00

This bottle is an extremely rare 10-year-old '1849' expression of Old Fitzgerald, bottled in 1970. While most '1849' bourbon was bottled at 8 years old or younger, this particular example is 2 years older than the renowned 'Very Old Fitzgerald' and on par with the 'Very Xtra Old.' Distilled around 1960, during Julian "Pappy" Van Winkle's active years at the Stitzel-Weller Distillery, it features bourbon from the celebrated Van Winkle era.

The '1849' label, introduced in the early 1970s, commemorates the founding year of W.L. Weller & Sons. The Stitzel-Weller Distillery itself was established in 1933 after the repeal of Prohibition by Alex T. Farnsley, Arthur Philip Stitzel, and Julian Van Winkle. The distillery closed in 1992 and was purchased by United Distillers (Diageo) in 1994, who restored its original name. In 1999, they sold the Old Fitzgerald brand to Heaven Hill, which continues to produce the '1849' as a premium product today.
