Dewar’s was founded by John Dewar Sr. in 1846. Under the leadership of his sons, John A. Dewar Jr. and Thomas “Tommy” Dewar, the brand expanded internationally by the late 19th century. Tommy Dewar helped promote the brand globally through extensive travel and publicity, documented in his book Ramble Round the Globe. In 1896 the company established Aberfeldy Distillery to secure malt whisky for its blends.
