Release 20, Infrared Light Wave Barrels, was an experimental project at Buffalo Trace in 2009 using barrels from Independent Stave Company treated with infrared light to explore new flavor extraction from oak. Four barrels were exposed for 15 minutes at 70% power with short- and medium-wave frequencies, producing whiskey with a floral nose and a complex profile of oak, tannins, raisin, and caramel.
