Glen Albyn Distillery was founded in Inverness in 1846 by local landowner and town mayor James Sutherland on the site of a former brewery and maltings. Licensed in 1847, the distillery experienced early setbacks, including a fire in 1849 that required extensive rebuilding, and ceased operations in 1855 before later revivals. The distillery has since been demolished.

This example is a 1994 Gordon & MacPhail bottling of Glen Albyn, distilled in 1972, representing one of the independent releases from the now-closed Highland distillery.
